spring!

I think I'm feeling it.

Part of it is daylight savings time, of course. But even so, when I left work last night at 5:45, it's not just that it wasn't dark out, it's that it was bright. Very bright. Almost put on my sunglasses bright. There's a different quality to the light now. I like it.

I'm seriously considering going for a walk.

It is bright, but it's still cold--my car claimed it was 37 this afternoon.

On the other hand, if you're not going to actively suffer from hypothermia, walking's pretty much always a good idea. :)

I was just thinking that I wish I was one of those warm-blooded people who can throw off the winter outerwear with impunity as soon as it starts *looking* like spring outside.

When I was coming home from work, there was a young woman walking a puppy near my house, wearing nothing but a hoodie. I'm sorry, but I think it's too cold to go out in just a hoodie even if you are walking an extremely excited little dog!

I've been seeing a lot of that around the Harvard campus, too... or maybe just a long sleeved shirt, or far worse, walking outside in either just shorts or just a T-shirt (though so far never both shorts and a T-shirt at the same time).

You'd think someone smart enough to go to Harvard would be at least smart enough to put something on when it's almost freezing, but I guess that bright sun is dazzling them, too. ;)

Solar-powered people have it pretty good this time of year, yes. There's a guy from Holland who holds all sorts of anti-hypothermia records (longest time submerged in ice, etc.) who the docs and scientists figure is doing it all with his mind, cuz there's no apparent physiological difference enabling him to keep his systems functioning and core temperature elevated. I always like to think of that when I'm a layer or two short of oughtta-be-enough.

I suppose if I do yoga and breathwork very faithfully for the next 40 years, I could learn to keep my core temperature up through the awesome force of my pure will. You know, before I die. (You guys know I eat this stuff up, right?)

So, yeah, I did go out for my walk wearing a hoodie. With the down vest over it. :-)
