more art n' possibly crafts

I bought this print today:

http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=14321316&ref=vt_other_2

Do you like it?

I am also quite close to buying this Ikea bookcase:

http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/90111027

because, though it seems like kind of a lot of money for a piece of Ikea crap, it is actually real wood, and it's the exact right dimensions for that space in my bedroom that's empty, as well as being a color that would work. The fact that the Ikea website has a little icon for "assembly help" however, is making me a little leery of how easy their stuff is to put together. Reassurance and/or warnings, anyone?

xoxo

I like the print, very romantic.

Though I think one could raise the philosophical question of just how "original" it is if all the elements are taken from other artists!

That bookcase looks nice, and I'm shocked that Ikea has anything that's actually "solid wood".

As for putting it together, I've put together plenty of their stuff (and Crate and Barrel and Framingham Warehouse) and it's never been that hard. It can often be useful to have someone else around to hold some of the first big pieces as you're screwing them together, but with two people it's usually no big deal. I think the "Assembly Service" must be for people who really don't want to grab hold of a screwdriver at all... which, as we've seen from the ongoing remodeling, is certainly not you!

If you don't already have one, though, a decent power screwdriver with a good collection of bits can really come in handy (and save you wear and tear on your hand and wrist).

BTW, the Framingham International Home Warehouse has a lot of nice knockdown Scandinavian furniture, much of it better made and sturdier than the Ikea stuff--and sometimes easier to put together--while being roughly the same price. That's where all my teak veneer bookcases are from. They might not have the styles you're looking for, but it could be worth checking them out... There's a lot of bookcases in various lines in their "Office" section.

Eh, it's like sampling in hip hop. Creative stealing *is* an artform ;-) I love the colors in that, though, and I like angels--not sweet, "ooo, my angel guided me" angels, but slightly scary and possibly fallen angels (see: "Murder Mysteries" by Neil Gaiman).

Thanks for the Ikea reassurance. My "some swearing required" bookcases were Crate and Barrel, and obviously were perfectly do-able, but the fact that Ikea apparently thinks people are going to possibly freak out at assembling their merchandise had me a bit concerned.

I probably could use a cordless screwdriver. I probably could use a lot of power tools, actually. It's been slow in work today w/ cancellations, and as I was poking aroung the HGTV website, I was like, "yeah! what my bedroom really needs is crown molding!" (Then I remembered almost amputating a digit just cutting sunflowers a few months ago and reconsidered the whole miter-box-required thang :-))

Thanks also for the link. I quickly looked at it and I didn't see any counter-height bookcases, though maybe I missed them.

Without a 49 tattooed on one of the chicks, or, at the very least, a tasteful Boston B, it's hard for me to have an opinion.
